Assistant Health Sciences Clinical Professor / Physical Therapist: Inpatient Rehabilitation Services

The UCSF Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science is seeking full-time member in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series (at the rank of Assistant) to provide Physical Therapy services in the inpatient rehabilitation services department at UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center, with expertise and documented excellence in neuromuscular rehabilitation, neuroanatomy, pharmacology, pathology, and/or evidence-based practice. The applicant will also support our UCSF/SFSU Graduate Program in Physical Therapy and Acute Care residency program.

The mission of the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science is to provide evidence-based, patient- centered physical therapy services for the community, and to educate scholarly, socially sensitive clinicians, educators, and researchers in physical therapy and rehabilitation science who will lead the profession into the next century. Physical therapy students, residents, and clinical faculty participate as part of a team within an environment of health care that is patient focused, and directed towards building the scientific base of clinical practice, with an eye toward quality, accessibility, and efficiency.

The UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center Rehabilitation Services serves a broad range of adult patients (adolescents to elders) with a variety of diagnoses in settings ranging from critical care to Emergency Department. Our primary clinical teams include Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants working on a host of initiatives including early mobility, delirium reduction, falls reduction, and outcomes improvements in the clinical areas of Orthopedics & Spine, Cardiac, Neurology, Medical/Surgery, Medicine, and Oncology.

At time of hire applicants must hold a DPT degree and have a Neurological area of expertise. The applicant must have a license to practice physical therapy in California or be eligible for licensure in California, and must have experience in patient care at time of hire. Applicant's materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission. The applicants for these positions are expected to practice evidence based, high quality care; collaborate and communicate effectively in a multidisciplinary clinical team; participate in quality, safety, and outcomes improvements; demonstrate successful time management with multiple demands and competing priorities; professionally represent the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science within UCSF and the surrounding communities; and maintain an active dialogue with UCSF referring providers and within the UCSF Health community. It is preferred that applicants have recent clinical experience in a large hospital setting.

The candidates may be asked to participate in classroom teaching, and will instruct students in the acute care environments. This position is comprised of 95% patient care and 5% teaching in the UCSF/SFSU Graduate Program in Physical Therapy (which offers an Entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy degree program) and collaborates with the Acute Care Residency program. The faculty member is expected to participate in university governance, faculty meetings, departmental administrative meetings, quality assurance programs and continuing education.
