The College of Health and Human Sciences at Northern Illinois University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Health Sciences program to begin August 2020. The Health Sciences program is within the School of Interdisciplinary Health Professions. The Health Sciences program offers the following degrees: B.S. in Health Sciences; M.S. degree in Health Sciences and Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Health Professions with participation of disciplines across the college.

Position Summary:

The position will involve undergraduate and graduate teaching with online and face-to-face course delivery, maintaining an active and focused research agenda, and providing service to the university, profession, and community. Expectations include but are not limited to:
  • Pursuit of a health sciences-related research agenda. Any health sciences-related research content area will be welcomed. Examples of potential research foci include but are not limited to: quality improvement of health or human services organizations, program evaluation, health disparities, healthy equity, professional education, or big data analytics in health sciences.
  • Commitment to serving underrepresented student populations through quality teaching practices.
  • Commitment to faculty teamwork in ensuring continuous improvement of programs through active engagement in assessment practices in accordance with Higher Learning Commission standards.
  • Dedication to providing students authentic learning opportunities through project-based learning, service learning, research, and other active learning approaches.
  • Eagerness to mentor and assist students with professional development, engagement in research and discovering career opportunities in this field.
  • Maintain a teaching portfolio that demonstrates quality practices through student evaluations of teaching, peer evaluations, reflective teaching practice, and other teaching evaluation methods.
  • Potential for external funding.
  • Service within Program, School, College, University, and health sciences-related professional organization.
  • Demonstrate ability to engage in quality community partnerships to enhance teaching, research, and service mission of the university.

    Required Qualifications:


    Preferred Qualifications:
    Candidates with a degree in a health sciences or health sciences-related field (BS, MS, or PhD), interest and/or experience with undergraduate health science programs, strong qualitative and/or quantitative skills, and university-level teaching in the field of health sciences including developing and teaching online courses will be given preference. Relevant professional work experience preferable in a health-related field and/or academic program level administrative experience are also desirable.


    Hiring Rate/Range: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
